Jack Brooks (or whatever name you give him) is a widower living with his adopted teenage daughter Carol in the aftermath of a global pandemic. The story moves between two timelines: how Jack came to adopt Carol and how the two of them grew into a family before civilization collapsed, and the present-day Brooks family trying to hold itself together while everything else falls apart.
Inspired by Stephen King's The Stand and the wider zombie-fiction shelf. The tone leans tense and survival-driven; the relationships are where the heat lives.
